IPL Skin rejuvenation or Photorejuvenation is the most effective method of obtaining an even skin tone and texture. It is a fantastic treatment for acne, rosacea, sun spots, dark spots, large pores, broken capillaries and fine lines and wrinkles. IPL or Intense Pulsed Light therapy uses high intensity pulses of visible light to address these skin concerns.
At Urban Sanctuary we only use the best technologies and for the photorejuvenation treatment we use the Nordlys IPL system from Candela, this is a dual system that offers IPL and hair removal treatments. There is no down time required after IPL treatment as it is non invasive but it is advised that SPF should become part of your regular skincare routine. Photorejuvenation treatment is best advised after the summer months.
IPL/Photorejuvenation at Urban Sanctuary
A patch test and consultation is required for this treatment. This takes 20 minutes where a concise medical questionnaire is filled in, a patch test of a small area of skin is then performed.
Once there are no reactions to the patch test and no contraindications it is possible to go ahead with treatments after 48 hours.
The area to be treated is double cleansed, a cooling gel is then applied to the area. Goggles are applied to the eyes to protect from the high intensity light of the treatment. The hand piece from the IPL machine is applied over the skin and small pulses of light are emitted from it. SPF is then applied to the skin. The sessions are 30 minutes in duration. There is no downtime required for this treatment.
4 to 6 sessions are advised for optimum results.

The light energy is absorbed by melanin, which is responsible for skin pigment and hemoglobin (red blood cells in the blood vessels). As a result, these structures become damaged and are absorbed by the body or brought to the surface of the skin where they will eventually be discarded.
IPL for acne treatment is also a popular and effective treatment in Urban Sanctuary. The intense light penetrates through various skin layers targeting acne bacteria and reduces the inflammation or sebum excess (skin oil) production that characterises acne.
This treatment does require a patch test and consultation where different contraindications are discussed. Treatment is performed by our expertly trained therapists.
Clients notice a slight stinging sensation on the skin but only when the light is emitted onto the skin.
Results can be seen after 4 to 6 sessions generally but further sessions may be required depending on the skin concern.
