Uneven or hyper skin pigmentation is a common concern for many of our clients. It is when some areas of the skin are darker than other areas and can be caused by over exposure to the sun, certain medications, medical conditions such as melasma or mask of pregnancy and scarring.
Melanin is a substance in the body that controls the colour of our skin and if someone has an abnormal functioning of melanin it can lead to hyperpigmentation. This abnormal functioning occurs when there is an over production of melanin creating dark spots or areas on the skin. When skin is constantly exposed to UV rays it stimulates the skins pigmentation cells to secrete large amounts of melanin, this occurs uniformly and has an uneven distribution over the skins surface.
