Acne is a common skin condition that causes blockages of the pores in the skin. Currently it effects 80% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 and can persist into adulthood or even commence in later years. Acne occurs when there is a blockage of the pores from dead skin cells in hair follicles, an increased production of natural oils called sebum and the subsequent exasperated growth of C. acnes bacteria.
There are many triggers for acne such as hormones, pollutants and free radicals, medical conditions such as PCOS, medications and diet.
